The annual landscape architecture journal PLOT is curated, edited, and produced by a team of graduate students in the second year of the Master of Landscape Architecture program at the Spitzer School of Architecture, City College of New York, with the support of a faculty coordinator. The journal is conceived as a thematic community platform for critical writing and design exploration, and encourages collaborative discussion around a contemporary theme selected each year by the student editors.

PLOT aims to explore emergent landscape phenomena and consider innovative design thinking in the urban landscape. Each curated issue shapes new ways of collectively reconsidering the city, invented territories, and contested grounds. Our cover images feature the work of female artists, including Agnes Denes, Barbara Kruger, Pat Oleszko, Mierle Laderman Ukeles, Patricia Johanson, Sarah Sze, and Bryony Roberts, each of whom capture a performative aspect of landscape that reflects the annual theme.

The print edition of PLOT is publicly launched each spring, followed by a fall lunchtime lecture series at the Spitzer School of Architecture with selected contributors. We engage with a broad range of both local and international contributors, and seek to further expand our audience. We believe that PLOT has the power to inform and inspire our community, and envision the journal as a collaborative project, collectively engaging the student body and faculty at the Spitzer School of Architecture as well as practitioners and social activists with an interest in the public realm.
